Jaime Smialek of Our Ampersand Photo is a wedding photographer based in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She specializes in capturing artistic portraits paired with unique storytelling moments to produce natural, emotional wedding photography.
I had the pleasure of helping Jaime redesign her website and blog and optimizing it for performance. With over 6000 high-resolution images, pages were loading slowly, and server resources were being pushed to the limit. We used some special WordPress magic to batch optimize and resize all 6000+ images and keep them looking just as sharp as the originals.
We used a theme called Crowd 2 from Flothemes which provided us with a timeless, simple design and plenty of layout options and galleries. Perfect for a wedding photographer. We focused on presenting the work clearly and creating effective calls to action to guide visitors throughout the site.
Catherine Coons is a traveling wedding photographer based out of southern California. Her WordPress website was full of beautiful ( and large ) images that were slowing down page speed and affecting the overall user experience of the site.
We delivered a solution to the problem by installing a few plugins that helped us resize the entire image directory of her site to a standard 2048px wide. Then we ran an image compression script which further reduced the files sizes.
We added pagination to the blog and limited 6 posts per page to limit the number of images and HTTP requests per page. The also used a caching plugin a content delivery network to speed up the delivery of the images.
We took a benchmark measurement before we began the project and everyone was pleased with the final results; a fast and efficient website that maintains the image quality that a wedding photographer needs.
The Burnside is a fully restored, mixed-use building located in Chattanooga’s historic Southside at 2100 Rossville Avenue. Occupying the former home of the Andrews Paper Box Company—founded by Oliver Burnside Andrews in 1912—the Burnside draws on its industrial past, blending exposed brick and copious natural light, to offer a unique retail, office, or residential experience.
