Real Estate Photography Home Prep Checklist

To make the most of your MulkeyMedia Real Estate Photography photo shoot, we have compiled a list of common tips to help prepare your home. These tips will help ensure that your real estate agent and photographer will have the best images for your listing.

General Exterior

• Remove vehicles from the driveway and front of the house.
• Remove trash bins so they are not visible from the street, side, or backyard.
• Put away all garden hoses, tools, toys, pet toys, and bikes neatly.
• Turn on all exterior decorative lighting.
• Open all curtains and/or blinds.
• Remove security signage from the front of the home or yard.

General Interior

• Remove door mats, floor mats, and small area rugs.
• Clean windows, dust surfaces, vacuum, or mop floors.
• Open curtains and blinds, and turn off all ceiling fans.
• Make sure all light bulbs are working and turn on all lights and lamps.
• Straighten tables and chairs, and arrange cushions attractively.

Kitchen

• Clear countertops and the sink of food, dish racks, and cutting boards.
• Remove magnets and all other items from the refrigerator.
• Remove dish liquids, tea towels, soaps, and plugs.
• Put away garbage cans, brooms, mops, and cleaning products.

Bathrooms

• Clear countertops of toothbrushes, soaps, razors, and plugs.
• Remove shampoos, soaps, and cleaning products from tubs and showers.
• Remove garbage cans, scales, all bathmats, and laundry baskets.
• Close toilet lids and remove toilet brushes and spare toilet rolls.
• Hang clean, matching towels on holders or leave them bare.

Bedrooms

• Clear away clothes, shoes, and laundry baskets.
• Remove books, tissue boxes, coasters, etc., from bedside tables and tidy desks.
• Remove fans, heaters, and trash cans.
• Remove names, initials, and all photos of children, and remove personal identifiers such as college degrees, alma maters, church, or spiritual connections.
• Make the beds with your best bed linens and thickest pillows.

Pets

• Have a plan for pets to be contained or away from home during the shoot.
• Remove food/water bowls, crates, beds, toys, etc.
• Move the litter box to an area that will not be photographed.
